Getting your first job of life is very exciting thing. First job is starting of your corporate career so it is important to get first job right. As a fresher we have very less or no knowledge about industry where we will be doing job all over the life. Getting reputed company is dream of every student. Every guy has a dream that he should work in friendly environment with higher salary. Also every middle class parents spend their entire money in education for their child. So it is your duty to make your parents happy by getting higher salary job.
Many institutes have placements but not 100% students gets placed. Also lakhs of students gets graduated every year but jobs are not in same quantity. So there is great competition for job. Also every employer wants best employee which can fulfill their job requirements.
If your institute is having placements companies start coming in your last year of degree, mostly in the last semester of your degree. So you should get ready for the selection process before it. Mostly companies require only 2-3 students from every year batch. But thousands of students appear for the selection process of that company. So you should be prepared strong for the selection process.
If you don't get placed from your institute or very less companies come to your institute for placement then don't worry, you can still get better job if your preparation for selection process is very strong.
Most of the companies have selection process as per below steps ;
1. Aptitude test
2. Group discussion
3. Technical Interview
4. HR Interview
We will see in brief about all steps.
1. Aptitude test :
Aptitude test is generally with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Aptitude test consists of variety of questions as logical reasoning, verbal reasoning, statements, arithmetic questions etc.
Speed of solving aptitude questions is very important as you have limited time for the test.Generally there is no any negative marking in the aptitude test. But some companies conduct aptitude test with negative marking.
Generally aptitude test is conducted online but some companies conduct aptitude test offline i.e. on paper. I recommend to solve the easy and small questions first when you are giving aptitude test. As bigger and difficult questions may take your time and you would not get time for solving simple questions. As this is MCQ type test you should solve mathematical questions logically means you don't need to solve the mathematical questions step by step.
2. Group Discussion :
After cracking aptitude test you gets eligible for group discussion. Out of thousands of students appearing for aptitude test only few hundreds of students get eligible for group discussion. Group discussion generally carried out between 8-10 candidates. Time allotted for the group discussion is generally 15 minutes.
Candidates are seated around round table and topic is given between them for group discussion. Generally topic given is trending topic. So you should have knowledge about what is happening around you. You should be updated with latest news. You should try to start the discussion as soon as topic is given. If you can not able to start you should speak at least for some time between the discussion. You should stick to the topic also you should never oppose anybody in the discussion.
3. Technical Interview :
Technical interview is conducted by technical persons from the company. Generally they are HOD's of your future department if you got selected. In short you will be working in their team.
You should be dressed properly when going to interview. Combination of light blue shirt and black pant is best dress code for interview. You can also wear tye for better look. Also you should wear properly polished ad clean shoes. Black color shoes are perfect for interview.
As a fresher, interviewer will ask you questions related to your project only. But he can also ask some technical questions from your syllabus. You should give answer correctly and stick to the topic. You can tell interviewer you don't no answer if you don't know the answer but don't give any answer.
4. HR Interview :
HR interview is conducted by HR of the company. In HR interview personal questions are asked like about you and your family, your hobbies. If your technical interview is very better then HR interview is just for formality. If you crack technical interview and selected by interviewer you don't need to worry about HR interview.
